The International Documentary Festival of Epirus

The 4th WEST SIDE MOUNTAINS DOC FEST or International Documentary Festival of Epirus was founded in 2018 by AMKE Culture Canto Mediterraneo and is a multi-day film festival which receives entries from all over the world and from creators of all ages and nationalities who submit their films to us.
The main goal of our festival is to promote, highlight and understand the basic principles of cinematic art and so WEST SIDE MOUNTAINS DOC FEST develops cultural bridges with the world, enhances the sense of community and intercultural communication, while educating and familiarizing spectator with cinematic art. At the same time, the Festival, through its selections and its special tributes, promotes social issues and confronts stereotypes and prejudices of all kinds. In this regard, films with extreme political, racist or religious positions are rejected by the organization.
This Documentary Festival started in 2018 in the Municipality of Karaiskaki of Orini Arta. The main thought and intention of those who dealt with the establishment of the Festival was the creation of an important cultural event, in one of the poorest and most inaccessible areas of Europe. An area of incredible natural beauty that starts from Agrafa and the valley of Acheloos and reaches almost to Arta.
The festival completely achieved its goals and we are already on the eve of the start of its fourth season. During these years the dream came true and so we managed to extend it almost to the whole of Epirus. This expansion of the festival became a reality with the participation of the Municipalities of Central Tzoumerka, North Tzoumerka, Pogoni, Preveza, Arta, Karaiskaki, the Society of Greek Directors, many associations, Brotherhoods, local Federations, Federations of the Ierapetra Festival but also of the representative of the Continental Community in Athens Panipirotic S.E.
With hard work and minimal resources we managed to make the festival loved by the people and tend to establish itself as an internationally renowned festival, held far from major urban centers.
We have managed to prove that on the occasion of this festival, opportunities can be created for the development of cultural institutions, as well as alternative tourism in our country, which needs to take a step forward and free itself from the degraded cultural "status" that haunts it and often holds hostage to the bad taste and commercialization of everything.

The events of the Festival started at 14:00 with the pre-festival screening of the documentary "Georgios Karaiskakis at the border of Mythos in the courtyard of the Comforter in Arta.
