Vassiliki Giakoumaki

Social anthropologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Thessaly.

Her research interests include issues of national identity, ethnic groups, multiculturalist politics, religious sentiment and religious practice, and the roles of religion in the public sphere.

She is particularly focusing on issues of Jewish identity and culture in Greece and Europe, and Greek-Jewish identity in Israel.

Her experience in ethnographic film begins with the making of the documentary Etz Hayyim: Voices Surrounding a Synagogue (2005, European research program “Mediterranean Voices”), and extends to a collective work on a documentary film (currently in progress) on Greek identity in contemporary Israel.
