Cyborg Theory: Act I

Fiction | 2023 | Col | 28m

Summary

The cyborg (they/their), a person of colour with a hybrid identity (class, gender, sexuality), has a point of view that impacts how they experience and remember events. When daily life and memories interact, the cyborg’s inner dialogue journeys from one emotion to another emotion. Cyborg 1, Cyborg 2, Cyborg 3, and Cyborg 4 (the dancers) represent different aspects of their personality and how the journey between emotions shifts their reality. The cyborg starts their daily life in dream-state where Cyborg 1 (Amarnah Amuludun) and Cyborg 2 (Tyresse Bracy) process past emotions from loving partnership and self-identity through poetic movements. However, as the day progresses in awaken-state, Cyborg 2 wears a mask reflect reality. When the day becomes difficult, Cyborg 3 (Joseph Funnell) and Cyborg 4 (Rowdy SS) gets lost in anxiety and panic. The heightened emotions are triggering trivial memories and distorts the cyborg’s reality. When reality becomes out of touch, the cyborg navigates back to reality and a sense of balance with the help of Cyborg 1, Cyborg 2, Cyborg 3, and Cyborg 4. They’re physically challenged to detangle reality and inner reality to establish emotional order and harmony before the daily life cycle restarts.
