Summary

Society is constantly changing, and so are the expectations of social role models. Where men once needed to be strong, facilitate progress and take care of their family as a sole breadwinner, the rigid gender roles have now broken down. Men can even fall ill when traditional role assignments put too much pressure upon them. But what defines today‘s men, or what actually is "being a man"?

The documentary "Männer" shows five young men with their definition of masculinity. Our camera teams have accompanied the protagonists over a certain period of time in order to show these men's everyday life and their very own understanding of "being a man". How do these different people deal with their privileges and weaknesses? Is it manly to always be in control, or to lose it sometimes too?
